LYNDON CHAIR
Lyndon is a street that runs through the historic Rosedale Park neighborhood on the west side of Detroit. It traverses the spectrum of Black life, interrogating its polarities. The concept for the Lyndon chair is inspired by the designer’s journey through these spaces as an adolescent in the early 2000s.
The chair reflects the interplay between the muted domesticity of youth and a longing to experience a certain wildness beyond the protective sheild of the porch. Its curves mimic the city’s soundscape and landscape, echoing the high-spirited rhythms of an environment nestled in the Great Lakes.
The Lyndon’s sturdy craftsmanship may inspire sitters to rest in the sunlight of an open field, but the piece fulfills its purpose in the home. Made from Cherry wood with a satin finish, each chair designed by Aleiya Olu is handmade in Detroit.
